SCHEME: A Queer Feminist Leadership Convergence is a new program hosted by the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at UNCG. It is a free, four-day, in-person experience for student activists, scholars, and creatives across Greensboro universities to co-create a political home rooted in queer, feminist, and anti-racist politics.

Attendees will draw from women of color feminist and queer liberatory traditions to build community with each other, learn about past and current advocacy work in Greensboro and beyond, grow their leadership skills for engaging in political projects of their own design, and establish coalitional networks to uplift anti-oppressive and just work at their home institutions.

Participants will leave the program empowered, connected, and ready to respond to the present moment with creativity and critical hope.

Who is Welcome:

  • Undergraduate students and rising first year students from any of the six colleges and universities in Greensboro, North Carolina (UNCG, NCAT, Guilford, Bennett, Greensboro, and GTCC)
  • Those new and those experienced in feminist and queer thought and movement work.
  • Student activists, scholars, and creatives willing and committed to dreaming, scheming, and playing together to create more just and equitable presents and futures in our shared community.

SCHEME: A Queer Feminist Summer Convergence envisions a cohort of students who represent the expansive backgrounds and histories present in Greensboro, North Carolina. Therefore, we welcome and expect a range of gender identities, racial identities, sexualities, bodies, cultures, nationalities, and economic and educational backgrounds in the space. We will center the knowledge and experiences of those most impacted by the oppressions we will be learning about, and we will cultivate a mutually supportive space for dreaming together. We ask that participants lead with curiosity, generosity, and openness as we share our diverse and collective stories.
