Students and faculty in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) explore how gender is produced within social institutions and how these institutions affect individual lives.
Research and coursework analyzes the mutual constitution of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, nationality, and religion.
Transformative courses. Inspiring Faculty. An experience to last a lifetime.
Why Women’s, Gender, and
Sexuality Studies?
Founded in 1972, UNC Greensboro’s program in Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies is one of the oldest in the nation.
The WGSS program offers an interdisciplinary liberal arts education that critically engages students in considering the complexities of gender and sexual identity, as well as women’s lives historically and in the contemporary moment.
Coursework further helps students understand how gender intersects with other important social identities, like nationality, sexuality, race, class, ethnicity, and ability.
