Please join the Women’s and Gender Studies Program as we welcome guest speaker Michael Robinson for his presentation on “Mind of a Man: Finding the Self in the Age of Toxic Masculinty” on Tuesday April 23, 2019 from 12pm to 1:30pm in the Maple Room of the EUC. Pizza reception immediately following.

Michael’s presentation will focus on:

  • How his idea of manhood was shaped through personal experiences and media
  • How these ideas and experiences influenced how he “acted out” manhood unconsciously as a young adult
  • His journey towards understanding the nature of misogyny and patriarchy as oppressive expressions within our system and the fallacy of the gender binary
  • How his emerging framework of gender fluidity impacts his own expression of what manhood is, can be, and even makes him question whether holding on to these ideas of masculinity or gender identity in general is even something worth attaching to anymore…

Michael Robinson is NCCJ’s Program Director. He previously served as a Success Coach for two years at High Point University. Michael receieved his Master’s Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at UNC Greensboro. In November 2016, Michael founded Shifting Lenses, a workshop series designed to bring people from all walks of life together to discuss divisive issues in public spaces.
