Dr. Anne Parsons is an Associate Professor and Director of Public History at UNC Greensboro, where she works on projects that unearth history and build community. Dr. Parsons has published From Asylum to Prison: Deinstitutionalization and the Rise of Mass Incarceration after 1945, the co-winner of the 2019 Outstanding Book Award from the Disability History Association. She has also worked on a number of public history projects, including the traveling exhibition Care and Custody: Past Responses to Mental Health and Out in Chicago, an exhibition on LGBTQ history. Dr. Parsons is currently co-curating a hybrid digital/physical exhibition on a Jewish uprising in Ukraine that will travel in North Carolina and Ukrainian high schools, encouraging young people to consider ways to resist injustice in their own communities.
