UNCG Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program mourns the passing of the Greensboro philanthropist and feminist pioneer Sally Cone. A staunch advocate of women’s rights and social justice, Sally Cone played a critical role in the establishment of UNCG’s Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program and was one of our most steadfast supporters. She and her late husband established our annual Sally and Alan Cone Awards, which offer financial support to students and recognize outstanding work in the field. These awards have helped hundreds of students pursue coursework in WGSS, travel to conferences, and develop innovative projects. We are grateful for everything Sally Cone did for WGSS — and the wider world — and will greatly miss her presence at our events and her irreplaceable contributions to the life of our Program.
