UNC Greensboro’s program in Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies offers an interdisciplinary liberal arts education that critically engages students in considering the complexities of gender and sexual identity and women’s lives historically and in the contemporary moment.
Coursework further helps students understand how gender intersects with other important social identities, like nationality, sexuality, race, class, ethnicity, and ability.
The degree prepares students for careers in politics and law, social work, psychology, human relations, sports and recreation, sociology, administration, the arts, business, education, health sciences, media, and more.
Independent Study
MAster of Arts (MA)
UNC Greensboro’s interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree is the only M.A. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in the state of North Carolina. The master’s program balances feminist theory with practice, preparing students for immediate entry into professions or further academic study.
Our graduates typically go on to advocacy, healthcare, education, or related professions in governmental or non-governmental agencies, or they enter Ph.D. programs.
Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Degree Program
Our Accelerated Degree Program (ADP) puts a Masters degree in your hand faster and at a lower cost! You will be able to count up to 12 credit hours of graduate work toward both your baccalaureate and Masters in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies while paying the lower undergraduate tuition. Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
The interdisciplinary post-baccalaureate certificate in WGSS enhances a graduate degree in disciplines as diverse as Nursing, History, English, Languages, Performing Arts, Communication Studies, Education, Sociology, Social Work, and Kinesiology.
This program may also serve as a stand-alone certificate to augment the qualifications of currently employed teachers, public servants, business people, and others. Some students use the PBC as a springboard to a Master of Arts degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
PBC students in WGSS who are in PhD programs in other departments may apply to teach WGSS undergraduate courses! Our application deadline is May 15 for Fall, and October 1 for Spring.
