After Thoughts: “We Keep Us Safe”

After Thoughts: “We Keep Us Safe”

On October 14th, members of the WGSS faculty met with students to discuss how Covid-19 and the current political climate was affecting their lives.  The meeting focused on sharing ideas about “how we keep each other safe.” Space allowed students to express the hardships they faced in the pandemic. Many discussed how difficult it was to learn and think in isolation. They remarked that isolation causes mental distress and academic hardships they have never faced before. The group also shared ideas about how to cope when it feels like you are all alone. These ideas included taking up a hobby, having the WGSS community spend more social distanced time together, and even getting a reminder app to make sure you are taking care of yourself. The main theme of the conversation was that we are not alone. The WGSS professors are always open to listen and students can reach out to each other. It was an important moment of human connection in a challenging time.
